Annual Eye Exams
The American Optometric Association (AOA) recommends eye exams at ages 6 months, 3 years, 5 years, and annually thereafter. Patients with systemic medical conditions that can manifest ocular conditions such as hypertension and diabetes should have a dilated eye exam annually. Annual exams include evaluation of:
- Visual acuity and if correction is needed to improve vision
- Eye movements and ocular muscles
- Pupil function
- Depth perception
- Color vision
- Field of vision

- Eye pressure (monitor for glaucoma)
- Dilation of the pupil to evaluate ocular health and monitor for cataracts, vitreous, retina and macular changes
